On Sustainable House Day, neighbours invite you into their homes — from retrofitted weatherboards and efficient apartments to all-electric renovations and off-grid builds. Whether you’re a homeowner or a renter, living in a house, unit or apartment, you’ll find real-world ideas that make homes more comfortable, affordable and climate-ready. It’s not about perfection — it’s about real people sharing practical solutions that work.

The impact is powerful: 70% of attendees plan to make changes to their own homes within six months of visiting. This neighbour-to-neighbour approach works because it’s rooted in trust, lived experience, and practical solutions you can actually use.

Alongside our open homes, communities run dozens of partner events — eco-village tours, panel discussions with experts, hands-on workshops on retrofitting and electrification, local branch meetups, and council-led information sessions. These events create spaces where people can connect, ask questions, and explore solutions together in ways that reflect their own community.

Media are warmly invited to get in touch to arrange interviews with homeowners, access case studies, images and video, or discuss story angles related to cost-of-living, housing, energy and climate resilience. For media enquiries, please contact shd@renew.org.au and we’ll get back to you asap.
